The system commissioned by ISPRA to WSense is now operational, funded through the PNRR as part of the MER project. This unprecedented monitoring setup features underwater sensors that transmit over 1,500 real-time data points daily on water quality and currents

Rome, September 12, 2025 – Since August 1st, the real-time underwater monitoring system has been fully operational, tracking key parameters of water quality and underwater current movements in the Gulf of Follonica (between Livorno and Grosseto, on the Tuscan coast). The Gulf hosts major fish and shellfish farming facilities, spanning an area of about 1,600 hectares, making it one of the most important aquaculture production hubs in Italy.
